Selama artinya “masa bodoh” saya kemungkinan akan menggunakan kata umpatan ini, tetapi tidak disertai kata ganti orang di depannya

Setting tahun 1980-an membuat gambar ini seperti sengaja dibuat suram. Wardrobe nya pun disesuaikan. Bahkan wajah Ben Affleck, pemeran utama sekaligus sutradara film ini, yang  biasanya klimis menjadi penuh dengan bulu.

Drama ini tentang penjemputan 6 orang diplomatik Amerika yang dianggap sebagai mata-mata di saat terjadinya revolusi di Iran.
Revolusi yg mengubah kerajaan Iran dari sistem monarki ke republik. Rakyat mengusir raja terakhir Iran, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi dan memilih  Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, sebagai pemimpin pujaan.

Itu juga yang membuat rakyat membenci Amerika. Mereka percaya Raja Shah bersekutu karena telah meminta bantuan Amerika membunuh siapa saja yang menentangnya.

Keadaan politik ini berimbas kepada para diplomatik negara barat. Mereka diintai, diburu, diserang bahkan digantung di muka umum. Semuanya karena alasan mata-mata.

Tugas Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) adalah membawa para buronan tentara Iran itu keluar dari negara yang sedang chaos. Sebagai anggota CIA, dia akhirnya bekerja sama dengan kedutaan Canada untuk bisa menyelamatkan mereka.

Ide itu muncul tiba-tiba. “Ini ide terbaik diantara semua ide buruk”, katanya. Menyamar sebagai kru film science fiction memang bisa membuat pemerintah Amerika Serikat  malu jika ketahuan. Tetapi tidak ada cara lain. Mereka harus melawan keseriusan dengan “lelucon ringan”

Walaupun “Argo” judul film rekaan ini adalah film absurd, tapi itulah hollywood, semua cerita bisa saja laku tetapi kali pembelinya adalah CIA untuk kepentingan intelejen.

Untuk menghadapi masalah pelik memang perlu sesekali kita bermasa bodoh. Tetapi bukan berarti tidak melakukan apa apa., justru persiapan “Masa bodoh dengan Argo”,  ditampakkan santai tapi serius

Ketegangan demi ketegangan berlalu, keraguan dan keyakinan pun saling berlomba menguasai diri para diplomat yang akan diselamatkan. Tetapi keteguhan tergambar pada pribadi Tony Mendez, yg tiba-tiba saja bisa menentang atasannya agar rencananya tetap bisa berjalan. Entahlah, walaupun berdasar dari kisah nyata mungkin cerita ini sudah penuh bumbu apalagi simbol kebanggaan menjadi “hero”  sudah tak bisa lepas dari tema umum film-film hollywood.

Yang pasti pahwalan di tanah lain bisa menjadi penjahat di tanah ini begitupun sebaliknya. Yang satu mengelukkan yg lain menghujat. Kita manusia cuma harus pandai-pandai meposisikan diri di waktu dan tempat yang tepat.
