Selamat Ulang Tahun Kota Makassar

Hampir 40 tahun saya melalui hidup di Makassar. Kota pesisir yang terkenal dengan kulinernya yang khas. Masa kecil saya lewati tanpa pernah berpikir akan meninggalkan kota kelahiran saya ini. Ruang dalam pikiran saya waktu itu sangat kecil. Lingkungan saya cuma berada di lingkup kecamatan Bontoala, Keseharian saya tidak pernah jauh dari rumah tempat tinggal saya.

Sekarang, gambaran dunia di kepala saya semakin luas. Sudah banyak pembading kota-kota yang pernah  saya kunjungi. Makassar pun berbenah di sana sini dan sepertinya bergerak searah dengan kota-kota besar lainnya.

Memang tidaklah mudah menghalau serangan globalisasi dan modernisasi. Jargon Makassar Kota Dunia menanti penuh harap. Dan sepertinya perlahan tapi pasti menghapus dunia kecil saya. Saya merasa akan kehilangan jejak keseharian saya berjalan di antara pohon rindang. Rumah yang memiliki teras, dan tempat bermain yang bebas.

Mall-mall dan ruko ruko yang dibangun membuat jarak pandang saya semakin sempit. Dulu dari teras lantai dua rumah, saya masih bisa memandang pabrik terigu yang berdiri kokoh dekat pelabuhan Soekarno-Hatta. Sekarang tidak lagi. Dulu saya bebas melempar pandangan ke arah laut di pantai Losari. Sekarang juga tidak lagi. Akan banyak kata “tidak lagi” jika saya merinci satu satu, saya menjadi kuatir.

Makassar, bagaimanapun tetap kota kelahiran dan kecintaan saya. Berkembang memang harus, tetapi arah dan keseimbangan perlu dijaga. Pastinya Makassar memiliki “isi” selain jejeran gedung-gedung tinggi dan lalu lalang  kendaraan yang mulai membuat banyak orang mengeluh.
Saya cuma berharap kepada nahkoda yang baru, semoga tidak keliru dalam menetapkan arah nantinya minimal menyelipkan momentum-momentum yang mengandung kearifan dari nenek moyang kita.
