May Day, Spesial Day
Bayangan kita terhadap MayDay mungkin berbeda-beda. Ada yang membayangkan kemacetan di jalan-jalan, kelompok-kelompok pendemo yang membawa bendera dengan yel-yel yang membakar semangat tapi menakutkan bagi yang mendengar.
Saya salah satunya yang agak sulit menghindarkan kenangan akan MayDay. Beberapa tahun saya bekerja di pabrik yang terletak di Kawasan Industri Makassar. Perusahaan dengan modal pengusaha Jepang ini memiliki karyawan kurang lebih 200 orang. Yang paling sensitif dengan urusan pekerja adalah usaha manufaktur, tambang, dan usaha-usaha yang menggunakan banyak tenaga kerja. Selain sulit untuk dihimpun, aspirasinya juga bermacam-macam.
Berkantor di kawasan industri sudah pasti lekat dengan keseharian pekerja-pekerja pabrik. Pekerja dapat menjadi sumber kekuatan dan dapat pula menjadi sumber kelemahan. Jika komunikasi antara managemen dan pekerja harmonis, segala hak dan kewajiban seimbang, pekerja bisa menjadi motor penggerak usaha yang maksimal. Tetapi jika terjadi ketimpangan, aspirasi tidak tersalurkan hal ini bisa menjadi celah, keresahan bisa saja dimanfaatkan oleh pihak-pihak yang ingin mengacaukan, entah dengan alasan ekonomi, politik dan sosial.
“Kalian harus ikut demo, jika tidak kami akan serang pabrik ini,”, kata wakil dari gerombolan yang mengendarai 2 mobil pick-up kepada kami. Saya saat itu turut menghadapi mereka. Pagar pabrik yang menjadi pembatas komunikasi ini. Mereka sudah mulai melakukan tindakan cenderung merusak dengan mendorong-dorong pagar. Jelas saja kami tidak terima, tetapi melihat mereka yang berjumlah sekitar 3o orang, beberapa masih tetap diatas motor sambil mengeraskan suara gasnya, this is not good.
Akhirnya kami mengalah dengan mengatakan akan mengirim utusan untuk ikut. Mereka meminta 100 orang, jelas tidak mungkin untuk proses produksi yang bertarget setiap harinya. Tetapi karena kami tidak ingin ribut kami iyakan saya. Dan masalah lain pun muncul. Ternyata diantara pekerja di pabrik kebanyakan tidak ada yang ingin ikut, mereka lebih memilih untuk tinggal bekerja. Alhasil kami cuma mengirimkan sekitar 20 orang saja, dan itu pun (katanya) mereka cuma menampakkan muka dengan seragam pabrik kemudian pulang, kembali ke kantor.
Lalu apa yang menjadikan MayDay ini spesial?
1 Mei adalah hari yang spesial untuk saudara perempuanku, Linda. Wanita yang sangat energik selalu berpikir positif dan rada cuek. Masih ingat jika terjadi keributan antar saudara, dia bisa dengan santainya tidak terlibat dengan kejadian itu. Pembawaan tenang dan peduli dari hati membuatnya sekarang bisa menjadi pemimpin di timnya. Dia pintar dan sangat tangkas.
Mama pernah kuatir dia tidak akan menjadi “perempuan”, karena hingga kelas 3 SMP dia tidak pernah mau mengenakan rok. Tetapi perempuan tetaplah perempuan. Sekarang dengan putra dan putri yang menggemaskan dia menjadi ibu yang sayang dibanggakan oleh anak-anaknya. Yah walaupun penampilan kemana-mana tetap dengan baju kaos, celana selutut dan sendal jepit.
