Ada cerita menarik yang saya dengar dari sahabat, orang terdekat saya. Dalam dunia kerja memang terisi oleh bermacam-macam niat, karakter, perilaku, dan sebagainya. Semakin lama kita berada dalam dunia ini semakin banyak juga yang bisa kita pelajari. Apakah itu menjadi bahan untuk menghadapi situasi atau bisa jadi menjadi bahan refleksi diri.

Ini seperti orang yang jualan bakso dan jualan mobil, katanya. Saya sempat bingung, apa ya maksudnya? Pernah gak memperhatikan bagaimana tukang bakso menarik perhatian sekampung agar semua orang menyadari kehadirannya? iya, benar. Rata-rata dari mereka menciptakan bunyi dari mangkuk dan sendok besi yang dimilikinya. Belum cukup dengan itu, kadang disertai juga dengan teriakan. Bakso…bakso…

Lalu bagaimana dengan pedagang mobil? apakah mereka melakukan hal yang sama? Tentu tidak. Walaupun mungkin modal suara yang bisa dihasilkan dari kendaraan ini bisa lebih besar dari dentingan suara mangkuk dan sendok yang beradu. Tapi benar, itu tidak dilakukan. Tidak perlu. Cukup dengan menempatkan mobilnya diam dan bersahaja, disertai lampu sorot yang menambah keanggunannya.

Benar, itu lah analogi dari bebarapa karakter yang bisa kita temukan di dunia kerja. Kadang orang harus bersuara kencang, terburu-buru bahkan memanfaatkan informasi yang keakuratannya belum terjamin, hanya untuk menarik perhatian. Dan memang itu yang mungkin mereka inginkan, perhatian sehingga mereka dianggap, atau dirasakan kehadirannya.

Tetapi ada juga karakter tenang yang berisi segala informasi tapi dengan segala pertimbangan yang ada di kepalanya, dengan sabar mendengarkan bahkan tidak terbaca apa yang sedang lalu lalang dalam pikirannya. Lao Tze berkata, orang bijak itu kelihatan bodoh. Mungkin seperti itu perumpamannya. Tetapi dengan kesabaran dan ketenangannya justru merupakan misteri, dia pasti menyimpan harta karun yang besar sehingga tidak dengan mudah diumbar. Mereka bisa memilih kepada siapa yang pantas untuk membicarakan sesuatu.
