“Dokter di Indonesia gak ada yang benar,” begitu kata pria paruh baya yang duduk di kursi belakang saya dalam perjalanan ke Penang, Malaysia. Mungkin jika profesi saya sebagai dokter dan berwarganegara Indonesia saya akan tersinggung. Tapi apa iyah saya akan marah? Terus dengan melihat kenyataan bahwa hampir semua penumpang AirAsia tujuan Penang ini bermaksud untuk berobat, apa yang bisa saya katakan?

Hampir semua orang dari Indonesia yang berobat di situ, kata driver taxi ketika saya bertanya tentang RS Lam Wah Ee. Kami orang Malaysia cuma di rumah sakit pemerintah, gak cukup uang untuk berobat ke sana. Kami harus antri lama, tak cepat seperti rumah sakit swasta yang mahal. Curhat pakcik ini memang bisa jadi akan sama di negara-negara berkembang, dimana pelayanan publik yang masih tidak merata. Untuk bisa mendapatkan pelayanan yang lebih baik, harus punya duit yang lebih banyak juga.

Lam Wah Ee adalah rumah sakit yg dirujuk oleh teman kakak saya. Rumah sakit yang berdiri sejak tahun 1883 di pulau Penang ini memang bukanlah yang paling ngetop. Banyak lagi rumah sakit yang disebutkan oleh pakcik supir taksi ini. Rumah sakit ini sepertinya memang tidak baru lagi, tetapi bersih dan ramai dikunjungi. Saya bahkan harus hati-hati jika berjalan di pelataran parkir, karena mobil yang lalu lalang juga banyak.

“Saya punya teman yang pernah dioperasi di RS, karena PNS maka dia berpikir akan lebih murah, ternyata harus balik ke sini lagi karena jantungnya berair”, begitu kabar yang disampaikan bapak yang kebetulan bertemu. Dia sedang menemani istri tercintanya yang sedang mengidap kanker. Mungkin secara tidak langsung dia mengisyaratkan kenapa dia lebih memilih rumah sakit dan dokter di Pinang dibanding di Indonesia.

Tidak nampak kehangatan dokter yang kita perkirakan, dokter yang kami temui agak “dingin” Keingin tahuan memang besar saat kita berhadapan dengan ahlinya. Tapi si dokter yang berkacamata ini memang tak banyak berbicara.  “Untuk diagnosa yang lebih pasti sebaiknya dikaterisasi agar bisa diketahui lebih pasti masalah dan tindakannya”. Dari situ saya bisa menduga duga bahwa dokter ini tidak mau sok tahu, dia memang mengandalkan teknologi bukan cuma pra-diagnosa yang banyak dilakukan dokter-dokter kita dan dilanjutkan dengan treatment yang jadinya bersifat coba-coba.

Semua pernyataan ini apa adanya, tidak bermaksud mendiskreditkan siapa pun, tapi kenyataan yang patut ditanggapi untuk perbaikan bagi siapa pun yang ada hubungannya. Sayang sekali jika resource yang seharusnya kita miliki malah termanfaatkan oleh orang lain. Karena pendapatan devisa dari pengobatan ini, Penang pun berani mempromosikan daerahnya sebagai tempat berobat yang baik dan dengan harga yang terjangkau.
